The Local Community in Shefa-‘Amr Leads the Process of Resilience to Climate Change

The Galilee Society held a meeting on August 2, 2021 in the community center in Shefa-‘Amr, as part of its project on enhancing climate resilience in Shefa-‘Amr, aiming at presenting and discussing the role of the community in enhancing the climatic resilience of the town. That is, raising its political, social, and economic capabilities to accommodate the current and expected changes.

Moreover, “environmental stands” were set up, which included presentations of various environmental initiatives related to climate change, in addition to quizzes about environmental facts and distributing prizes for the winners.

Representatives from the Galilee Society, Shefa-‘Amr Municipality and Haifa University spoke in the events. In addition, the EU Head of Operation Ms. Chrystelle Lucas, delivered a speech about the latest interest in climate change worldwide and the risks we face hence emphasizing the importance of building and enhancing climate resilience.

The project manager, Alaa Obeid, gave a comprehensive presentation of the project, where she spoke about global climate change and its significant local health impacts on society and quality of life. Ms. Obeid discussed thoroughly the importance of strengthening the community and the role it plays in the success of the project.

It is noteworthy that the implementation of the project is funded by the European Union and the Misereor Fund.
